More Music links....

More Music links...

my log. 5.28.14
I had appointments this morning and missed most of imus on the radio-over internet on wabc or imus.com
Had hoped CW et al would stick around NYC after Levon's celebration. She has been on Imus before and was fun to see Imus be really impressd by someone.
Sorry Imus got sick as mean as I can be to him, yelling at the radio thinking he can hear me,
Yet we are endeared to him, and his taste in music is crystal clear.
Was so happy when CW posted this link to some of her music she does with her talented helpers....
Enjoy and buy her music...

#AdiosImus

Farewell, You Surly Cowboy 🀠

To save a little time,
Posting a search of my blog where I mentioned Imus, Don Imus
He’s leaving his current Radio πŸ“» Show
Heading to higher pastures
I haven’t opened this file before posting
Hope you find some amusement here...

I wanted to do an autoharp tune for his last day.
I got the harp tuned up and it felt good to strum on it and sing 🎢
Alas, I failed to record anything and still want to explain what a nice instrument
The Autoharp is.
Fairly simple, gratifying sounds.
So wanted to suggest to Imus that he get one.
Quickest way to play perfect chords 😎🀠

Finally a video for him.
Been nice all these years...
Meg

Debut of Mary's Blog

Hello everyone and welcome to my Travelogue. I hope you are comfortable and feel free to move about the cabin. Please obey the signs when you need to sit or slow down. There may be unexpected turbulence. Try to roll with it. I know, that is not easy to do.
Drink fluids and get plenty of rest.
When stress rears its head, look it in the eye and say, "Who are you?"
Sometimes you will see your own reflection.
Strange, huh?
I was going to add a few more pictures but I am getting used to the new computer and Vista and all the quirks we have to endure when adopting a new computer system.
Don't worry, there will be posts and pictures and web links and ultimately the philosophy of one person who wants to share her thoughts in the hopes that we all can improve and be happier, healthier and satisfied even while
the wind blows through our hair.
If you impulsively subscribe and want to read this blog forever remember where you are. I guarantee by the time this blog turns to ashes you will be long gone too. That is the world according to the rules. I did not write the rules. I only read them outloud.
I wish you all well.
CULTURE
It is worthwhile buying Levon Helm's Grammy award winning latest CD, Dirt Farmer. Go to his website and buy one. He and his wonderful family and co-musicians preserved songs of history and styles of elders. What a beautiful project. levonhelm.com
Also used to  [**e 4 yrs ago used to have cable, now  I listen on 770 am online]  watch IMUS imus.com in the morning on RFD channel. He helps us get started in the morning in spite (or because) of the off color humor, we can get into our day with a laugh and smile. We marvel at the ranch story. What a great thing Imus and Deidre and donors have done for children with cancer and sickle cell anemia. Having worked in a hospital, their approach is certainly not sterile but clean and uplifting. A stark contrast to the regimented surgeries, protocols, and chemotherapy these kids are subjected to. It is wonderful to see these kids looked at with "normal" eyes. Not the pity look they are used to. These kids are stronger than those around them. They need the tough and hard aproach. Their life is so tough already and they can't show that to Mom or Grandad. This gives them the chance to really lose themselves and forget even for one moment that they have a cancer. Thanks folks. First stop on my trip around the universe.
Good day to you and Yours.

Hi Mary, In trying to respond to your message i ended up creating a page myself by mistake. I really just wanted to respond to you so here goes. I definitely was getting feelings of Starship Enterprise. Thanks for all the good advice. I want to recommend a fabulous book i just finished called Born on a Blue Day by Daniel Tammet. It about Daniel's story growing up and being in the world while also being autistic savant. This is a very revealing book and will change the way you think about lots of things. Coincidentally i picked up another book recently not knowing that it was about the same thing but this one is fiction. It's called THe Curious Inciden of the Dog at Night (something like that). Again, a compelling read. I too am now in the land of Vista. So far i like it just fine. I don't have a video card yet so when i do i will send some pictures (if i can figure out how too). Cool idea and i look forward to hearing about your travels in the universe that's so vast that we rarely get to see each other. At least we've got cyberspace. Love...........N

Friday Night Music

This Friday for 3 Women Musicians..

First, is a link from YT featuring
Lita Ford,
amazing

Then, Thought I needed to spool up some Carolyn Wonderland, This is one of my favorites, I found the Lions... late edition...after listening to this Carolyn Wonderland video I thought it had motion...weird. I looked for the one I thought I had...it slipped through my fingers. So wanting you to see the motion behind CW's amazing talent, will put in this link to an Imus show archive...this was the same time as we saw CW at Levon's barn...reminding me, go ahead and go see live music, there is nothing like it...

Then

Last but not least
a link to video on imus.com of Rosanne Cash singing a song from her new album... Just beautiful. i tried to embed the video to look cool but, hey i am no geek, and why waste precious time foolin' with it? Just figured I was darn lucky that fox business posted this. since we gave up the satellite, we don't even know what imus looks like anymore :). Anyway, back to the music: http://video.foxbusiness.com/v/3057092378001/rosanne-cash-performs-a-feathers-not-a-bird/

When there's a turn in the Weather....Random Findings on Twitter

That summer...............................................................................................................
I started following Janice Dean on Twitter. She is one of our favorites on the early days of us watching/ listening to imus, to connect with the NYC scene. Janice, with her smoothe style, would handle Imus's barbs as well or better than most. Her low reactivity a good lesson in avoiding confrontation. It wasn't as much about the weather. We are a few hundred miles north of NYC.
It was about Janice dodging and getting a barb in...
So today, as I surfed the twitter stream,
Janice wrote this great piece about the MonSter.
Please share and take some inspiration from the weather lady,
she is one tough cookie

Music for Friday (or Saturday...or any day...)😎

Levon on my mind a lot,
Our Shaman guide
Through this beautiful, tough, mean old world.

This link  was easy to find.
Search YouTube:
Levon, Ryman.

Did you think life was
Or should be
easy?

When you look over there,
Does it look easier?

Reminder of a story been wanting to tell.

It was a day at work when I was ready to throw in the towel. I worked as a visiting nurse case manager. Travelling, assessing, meeting clients, coordinating services, trying to squeeze health care from the limited wellspring.

I met the woman I needed to visit.
My heart was not in it.
I had been in this mode before. Nursing is emotionally draining.
I tried to put on my best face and smile.

The woman and I connected. We had good discussion as I ran down the list of questions.

At some point I noticed the poster...
Levon Helm...
internally I felt like my adrenaline was beginning to raise,
Like in ICU when someone's alarm went off.
These moments were what I lived for in nursing,
And what takes a serious toll.

I asked her, "So you like Levon?"
Was hoping for some epic tale of The Man,
The Man we saw at his barn/ home/studio
And at the Burlington Vermont Jazz festival.

Then the moment that told me,
"You're in the right place, Mary."

I feel like if you see something
Or feel something, like you have been there before,
Or in common terms:
You see a sign,
That maybe you are where you are supposed to be,
No Matter how tired or spent you are,
The Sign tells you,
You are on the right path.

She laughed,
and pointed to a set of ragged drumsticks hanging on the wall.
"Levon gave those to me..."

Well the rest of the interview shifted to music,
Concerts,
And me wanting the experience,
May I touch them?

They were rough, nicked, and Levon drummed with them
At the Burlington Jazz Festival concert we saw.
I remembered her now,
She was down in front, on the main floor of the theater.

When the concert was over, We saw Levon walk over to her and
He handed her his sticks.
The sticks that kept me working a few more years.

She explained..."I was wearing this Imus hat" She lifted it off her head.
This woman and I had a lot in common..."Oh yeah I listen to him too."...
She said she arranged it with Levon that he would give her his sticks
And the Imus hat was how he knew where she was.

I sat in awe and am still amazed at that special visit,
That special woman,
Who let me touch those special sticks,
The sticks of our Shaman Guide.

We never know when a special moment comes along,
It can be anywhere, anytime, anyone,
Who may inspire you to go on,
Telling you you're on the right path.

I Had a Dream

I listened to Martin Luther King's speech again
since I knew he would have it on.
Just as MLK talked about the mountaintops,
a tear came to my eye,
such a perfect speech in form, content,
feeling, message.
The sun came up over the mountains
and I snapped this one, above.

I wanted to tell a story today of my dream.

In the Second grade, I had a dream.
It was 1965 or so.
I had suffered the first grade with learning to play with others,
something I still struggle with.

My 2nd grade teacher was always there, smiling and loving us.
We knew all of us were loved.
The words I was learning to write,
and their meaning.
the words together,
started catching my interest more
and more.

One day, a fellow student
(he is a black child, though I have no idea he is different in anyway)
and I decided we would write a book.
That was one of the most exciting thoughts to me.
A Book,
like the ones on Mom's bookshelf,
like the ones in the library,
like the ones that made people famous,
We made plans to meet after school,
We were writing a
Book.

Fast forward to my neuro appointment last week,
My doctor saying,
"You missed your calling,
you are a good writer"
and me sitting there,
thinking of my little friend
in the second grade
I am 3rd from right in the front row.
Many years later, I saw this photo again and realized he
was the only male black child in my class.

When I announced to my father that I was going to write a book
with this young black child,
My father went ballistic.

That is when I learned what racism was.
I fought with him hard and lost.
I could not go to
that neighborhood...
aka
lower town...

I was so angry with him and have had a little anger in there left.
Still my father grew up in the south side of St Louis
in a German neighborhood. As time went on, urban blight
destroyed some of the neighborhoods. Blamed on black people.
Dad also delivered mail and told me he knew a lot
about people by the mail they received.
That confused me more than reassured me.
Now I know it is a lie.
You really do not know what people are about
by their mail.

I had a dream to write a book,
missed my calling, and gave up a fight with my father,
All while 7 years old.

Today, the dream,
remembered,
through MLK's voice,
resounding,
powerful,
gentle,
real.

My father,
I will always love dearly,
and I forgive,
in all his prejudice,
he was trying to protect me and was there for me.
He did not know it is not the color of a person's skin
that tells their character.
he learned it,
prejudice is learned
and can be
un-learned...

Them is us
We are them
We are all
I have a dream.

Travelogue for the Universe: I Had a Dream

Link to a post I did about Dr. Martin Luther King...

Travelogue for the Universe: I Had a Dream: I listened to Martin Luther King's speech again on Imus.com since I knew he would have it on. Just as MLK talked about the mountaintops,...

afterword...part of my frustration with the local yokies trying to sell my property for taxes due ($10,000 will buy a $300,000 property), is that I saw what discrimination does even to us poor white peeps. They did the same to poor blacks after being given a plot of land, made free and said go for it. So although I am not black, I am a woman and have been subjected to the town's BS about tax sales. Like they said they told my husband they were auctioning my property. They did not have to tell me, a woman landowner. I have a dream too, that people, all people, can own a piece of this Earth and live there forevermore. mg

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Mary Had A Little Lamb

Heard Kenny Wayne Shepherd et al for the first time on imus.com radio
Immediately another to add to my new favorites.
As in Double Trouble, Chris Layton on drums,
flashing me back to times like this YT video....and one of my favorite SRV tunes.
Continuing Friday Nacht Musik...

For Fred I

For Fred Imus

Suddenly gone,

He was,

A familiar voice,

Kindred soul.

Seemed like I knew him from

Somewhere.

His voice was a balancing force

Against his brother,

A spirit like his,

Only different.

He was the younger?

Still surprised,

He seemed older by his

Simple

Country street

Wisdom.

Corny jokes?

A wellspring there,

My cringing face

Delighting

In his satire,

And

Wit.

Like the old ones that I visit,
(and me, getting older each day),

He got the wish we nearly all have,

To die peacefully in one’s sleep,

To exit quietly this life they have had,

Yet to those around them,

A shock,

No saying goodbye,

Only hazy and happy memories,

Of a man

Who was

Suddenly gone.

Tedeschi Trucks Band - Darling Be Home Soon

)

So rare, to stumble upon people making music, together,
that I feel Like I have known my whole life
and just found them.
Love, love this couple, and their band.
Weird, I listened to imus.com this morning,
Lost the feed for some reason.
It has started to snow, schnee...
12-24 expected, Spring "sugar snow" it is called. It is the snow which helps
provide the moisture for maple sap....
So heard I interview a guy who wrote a book about
The Allman Brothers...one of my all time favorite groups.
And they are playing the Beacon and Derek Trucks is in the band...
Ahh, That is where I heard those sweet notes before....
Fun to see where the music takes us.

Friday Night Musik

Friday Night Musik

And searching for Cafe Society, Societe,

Twittersphere

Virtualized Society,

Yesterday waa still searching for the right selection for Friday.

Tuned into imus on WABC live (on line)
 Broadcasting From NYC.
Heard this beautiful tune from Elton John, link from yt
Distilling the spirit of NYC.
This concert just after 9/2011,
A powerful concert.
Currently Spanish Harlem suffers after an explosion
Eclipsed by the missing plane,
Like the mudslide, too real, too sad, victims too poor.

My mind drifted to Jesse, always, thinking of NYC.
Sometimes imaging him and me catching a bagel & lox at a deli
While he triple parked.

I had gone over some thoughts about why New Yorkers
Are cautious twitterers.
Weiner is number 1...his faux pas exposed the exposure,
Twitter likewise reflects the society you live in.

Better table this and get posting...
Happy Friday!
