Summer begins

Summer Begins

In the north country,
The signs all around us,
The temperature not too hot yet.
So mosquitoes, locust tree blossoms
And busy birds feeding fledgling babies,
Getting on with the business of summer.

Summer

Summer begins with the peonies,
funny how they bloom just as the thunderstorms come
and often beat the heavy blooms to the ground.
We think the locusts may not bloom, did the late frost interrupt something?

Next, a link to NASA's movie of Venus passing between the Sun and Earth
Quite stunning...

Summer Music

It was a strange string of moments that pulled me to check Levon's schedule in my margin.
First, I checked feedjit, my analyst for who is reading what and how they got here.
My form of QA, my feedback loop to see if what I write has any merit, is it even relevant,
is it something others scoff, laugh at, or enjoy, or both.
Some days I do not care what other people think (smart)
and other days, I just cannot keep my mind off that subject.
So anyway, I saw someone searched for Levon's summer jazz festival concert in Burlington.
What a great one that was.
So I re-read the post, reminiscing, and re read the message I gave last year.
Look in my margin for Levon's schedule.
Then I did.
There was a new dot, in Vermont, right there.
I clicked and found our Levon is coming to Woodstock, Vermont in August.
Then we went to levonhelm.com and clicked us out a couple tickets.
We are in for some fine summer music,
and
I began to wonder at the strange set of circumstances
that led me to find these tickets.
Thanks to the universe,
Where we sometimes experience tragedy
and magic,
memories,
music
and
wonder.

Three Longest Days

Today is the second of the three longest daylight days for us in the Northern Hemisphere.
When I did a post of the Three Shortest Days, someone searched google for the three shortest days.
So, while I found it strange that I would do a post about some strange thought I had,
I found it even stranger that someone else thought something even similar.
We get a little daylight obsessed up here, are so light deprived in the winter.
So today being
The Longest Daylight Day
it is naturally special,
and a little sadness
leaks through
when we think
The light of day will get progressively shorter a tiny bit each day until December 20 something.
We managed to prepare a few more garden beds last night
and hope to plant some more before the next rainfall.
meanwhile,
Enjoy the Longest Day today
and try to hold that thought.
Summer begins today.

Summer Begins

Summer Begins
When the locust trees bloom
in long clusters of
soft full
white
fragrant
flowers,
and the bees appear,
having feasted fully
on
apple, cherry,
pear, mountain ash,
wild blossoms, dandelions
and
daisies.

Before the locust bloom,
the other leaves come out,
the maple, oak and other
hardwoods explode in green
that sooths your eyes
and reassures that
summer is near.

Before the locust bloom,
The locust are bare and
look like they are dying,
gnarly, rough and
dense hard wood.
Instead they are a living
breathing tree,
and the flowers prove
they are alive.

Today,
the longer days here,
glancing at the locust,
a double take,
the blooms are here,
Summer has begun,
the locust are in bloom.
