Nod to the Astronauts and Vermont Maple Syrup

Our news comes from radio, various internet links and local channels over Air.
Oh, sometimes seems like there's no good news.
Really enjoyed WCAX Cat did a story about Vermont maple syrup going to the
International Space  Station.

Sugaring Season

Sugaring Season

A magical process,
Highly underrated,
No doubt not completely understood,
Whereby humans interact with trees to harvest that
Delightful, Delicate, Delicious
Elixir.

Nothing like the real thing,
Full of trace nutrients
Chosen by the wise Sugar Maples.

Freezing weather required (done :<{},
then March days
above freezing.

So many factors coalesce
To make that sweet spring treat.

Seeing signs for Sugar houses open in Vermont.
Sap gathering,
Boiling,
Sugar on snow,
A magical time.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Meg

Fall maples

Maple sap,
Go ahead, drink it like the  old people did.
Watch the quantity...moderation.
Never steal sap,
Don't be a Sap Jacker!

Sap buckets on maples
Roads beginning to thaw.

Coloring my day

have you heard of #twaiku?
my friend Judy who writes Peace be with you
practices the haiku perfectly,
it is fun to twy and yesterday i twied some twitter-haiku.
forgot the darn # tag but working on it...
finally, no matter how many fall tree pictures you take,
you can come close,
but never quite the same,
as seeing this in person.

Late Color

We are in our late color phase in the valley's edge,
Between the peak color that lasts so briefly,
and the stark reality of stick season.
Late color features rugged maple leaves
that have outlasted remnants of 2 or 3 hurricanes,
and the crisp air signaling snow on the way.
Fred saw flakes today and we gaze at
the mountains covered with
snow.
These trees started providing us syrup
the spring after this photo was taken
with the help of friends who barter
like the old days
and skip the meddle man.
happy fall.
