Friday Night Musik

Friday Night Musik

This week's selection was easy once I got a tweet from The Iridium, a NYC club.
So as I caught some rays in a sunny window,
I previewed the music of

Jarekus Singleton

He and his band are Great Bluesmen,
You have to get his music!

(No question, from my first listen,
I heard Stevie Ray Vaughn's influence.
And yet, something very new)

Blues Excellence

Blues Excellence

The Blues

Main St. Edwardsville, Illinois
The Blue Note
Painted by My Mom, Betsy Gerdt
Then a small town
20 miles east of St. Louis.

Bear with me, I have to start at the beginning...

As we reconnected with the music of Levon Helm,

We wondered "What are these Midnight Rambles?"

Well the best way at the time was to get the DVD's
Of the rambles at LevonHelm.com

These are a great view of Levon's recording studio living room.
They were masterfully created and worth adding to your collection.

They also introduced us to some very talented musicians,
Good people
With an adoration of Levon
And People
And Music.

I particularly enjoyed the concert by

Alexis P Suter and her band.
They blew me away.
Every musician,
No holding back,
Full, forceful, gentle, kind.
Loving, Sadness, Living, suffering,
Powerful, Honest, and Vulnerable.
The Blues
Blues Excellence

So I recently received a notice that Alexis P Suter has been
Nominated for the Prestigious Koko Taylor award

So well deserved.
All musicians must make their own way to Memphis.
I want to share my feelings that musicians make the world a better place
So please...
Please help Alexis get to Memphis May 7th, 2015

''BLUES FOR MY DAD'' - WALTER TROUT BAND, feat JON TROUT and DANNY BRYANT

Blues For Tuesday....

just a little advice from one who had a satellite dish.
well, we still have it, it is not functional.
the cost creeped up into the 80's per mo and we finally
got rid of it.
instead, i subscribe to YT channels,
one song leads to another,
educational videos,
music,
exploration.
In this case, Blues from the Walter Trout Band...
perfect for today.
thanks

YT link....Fool's Gold @ the Barn

here i was, getting ready for work and fred blasted this one from a link put up by bb
i thought about my first story du jour
it was partly about levon in my mind,
his doctor and family/team helped him preserve enough vocal cords to sing and talk.
what a different world than 35 years ago.
this video is at levon's barn/living room
where we have spent the best dates of our life.
Be lovin's this Fool's Gold...the song that is...solid Gold!
Thanks Barb for spreading this far and wide...a beautiful life lesson in blue....

Summer's a Good time to hear the Blues

You just Know this is a Blues album by the cover...
Summertime, a good time to listen the the Blues.
I keep remembering Burkhardt's In the 1970,s South St. Louis.
Sitting outside, hearing great music.
Sweating and drinking Bud on tap. Or Stag.
After a ballgame when the Cards lost or won,
It didn't matter,
we were listening to live Blues
in hot and muggy St. Louis.

Now we see what prolonged rainfall can do in Vermont.
Our garden a tragedy, thankfully we did not plant a month ago.
What few tomatoes are in look good. Squash that is in is loving it.
Will try to plant the rest this weekend as we run out of time for some things.
So when I saw "didn't it rain" album coming out, how could I not post it.
Besides, Hugh Laurie is such a great musician, singer, blues man.

Nurses, Moms, and a YT link to the Incredible Nurse, Blues Legend Alberta Hunter

This is the last day of Nurse's Week.
Today is Florence Nightingale's birthday.
This is also Mother's Day, my first without Mom, who wanted to be a nurse but children were there and opportunity was not.
My BFF Donna thought she would be the nurse and then I became one.
Katie was a nurse too.
If it were not for Paula, a friend from the "old neighborhood,"
I would not know about another warm and wonderful nurse, Alberta Hunter.
Famous Blues singer, songwriter to nurse back to the stage,
where she clearly shines, shines.
I cannot tell the story like Paula did, with that thick New York City accent and the gestures.
Will work on that one later.
To the point, Alberta was a blues singer who got a nursing degree.
She worked past the age of mandatory retirement because the hospital did not know how old she really was. She was 80. She went back to singing and as you can see, she never missed a beat.
I can see her holding a dying mother's hand and stroking their shoulder.
She reminds me of my friend BJ in her physical strength. Do not underestimate how hard this woman has worked. She is originally from Memphis. Like so many others greats and legends...
This is dedicated to Alberta Hunter.
Will finish this story later.

Taxing Blues

Taxing Blues

Taxing blues,
Paid the bucks due,
Paperwork too,
Accountants so true.

I stress and strain the April Curse.
The paper sort,
and what is worse,
See the dough,
where did it go?
&Why do we still owe more?

Uncle Sam,
 I got those
Old time,
Nothin' left,
Low down,
Squoze out,
April 15th,
Taxing
Blues......

dedicated to the hope
tax code can be simplified
and humanized.
just could not believe w.s.
had to do time for not paying
really? take away his ability
to work?
