last day of May,
Summer arrived yesterday in Vermont
Hot, Hazy and Humid, mid 80's
We are woefully behind on gardening and yet the cold just perpetuated our delays.

Egyptology

Egyptology

I found a great Egyptology book at the community action second hand store.
Maybe a dollar,
Worth  way more to me.
Factoids, history,
Images, rituals,
Hieroglyphs, Symbolism,
Deities, Queens and child Kings.
Massive temples, Pyramids,
Hierarchy, calendars, zodiacal advice.
Priests, who were sort of legal and civic in function.
Oh, and the really big questions,
How could any modern-day human
Comprehend let alone explain it all
neatly in chapters,
Come on,
What did it sound like?
Taste, Smell, Feel like?
The true and street view,
What made them happy, sad, angry,
This was a good start,
But I still want
That other,
Unknown, Untold
Egyptology.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day

so far the weekend soggy and cold,
not unlike past years,
though I do not recall the snow thing.
we had no snow but saw pictures
at higher elevations.

Now about my time at the Ryman...

Packed my Long Black jacket even though Nashville is scorching in June.
Took a tour of the city.
At the Original Opry, they have a tour.
For Five bucks you can get a photo.
Pick a guitar,
They have several.
Stand up on the stage,
Where they all stood
And walk away
With a memory.

I went to a conference in Nashville in 2001
Got to see the Grand Ole Opry...
Well worth going to!

Psalm Challenge 105

Psalm Challenge 105

excerpt from 1899 Douay Rheims
by public domain

44 And he saw when they were in tribulation: and he heard their prayer.
45 And he was mindful of his covenant: and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.
46 And he gave them unto mercies, in the sight of all those that had made them captives.
47 Save us, O Lord, our God: and gather us from among nations: That we may give thanks to thy holy name, and may glory in thy praise.
48 Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say: So be it, so be it.

Hoping

Hoping

the new flood victims are ok
weird we had a semi-drought then these mean rainstorms.
Has been cold and rainy all day.

Hoping friends and family have a great Memorial Day Weekend
In Memory of the Veterans of war.

Hoping wars can someday become obsolete.
After delving into The Art of War by Sun Zu,
I understand some of the concepts better now.

Hoping you are having a great day,
no matter where you are.

The kaleidoscope

the kaleidoscope

fell to the floor with a crash,

never knowing
how fragile it was,
this paper tube filled with
pieces of broken glass
and sparkling metals
that catch your eye.

now pieces of trash
eluding the broom bristles,
slipping into floor cracks,
sure to show back up,
at some future time, reminding
you again of this moment,
when you dropped
the
kaleidoscope.

Psalm Challenge 104

Psalm Challenge 104
hard to keep up sometimes but it is a fun and worthwhile exercise...

Psalm 104

King James Version (KJV)
104 Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.
Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:
Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind:

Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:
Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.
Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains.
At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away.
They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them.

Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth.
10 He sendeth the springs into the valleys, which run among the hills.
11 They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild asses quench their thirst.

12 By them shall the fowls of the heaven have their habitation, which sing among the branches.
13 He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works.
14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;
15 And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart.
16 The trees of the Lord are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted;
17 Where the birds make their nests: as for the stork, the fir trees are her house.
18 The high hills are a refuge for the wild goats; and the rocks for the conies.
19 He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down.
20 Thou makest darkness, and it is night: wherein all the beasts of the forest do creep forth.
21 The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their meat from God.

22 The sun ariseth, they gather themselves together, and lay them down in their dens.
23 Man goeth forth unto his work and to his labour until the evening.
24 O Lord, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.
25 So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts.
26 There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein.
27 These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season.
28 That thou givest them they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good.
29 Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.
30 Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.
31 The glory of the Lord shall endure for ever: the Lord shall rejoice in his works.
32 He looketh on the earth, and it trembleth: he toucheth the hills, and they smoke.
33 I will sing unto the Lord as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.
34 My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the Lord.
35 Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless thou the Lord, O my soul. Praise ye the Lord.

Nurses, Moms, and a YT link to the Incredible Nurse, Blues Legend Alberta Hunter

This is the last day of Nurse's Week.
Today is Florence Nightingale's birthday.
This is also Mother's Day, my first without Mom, who wanted to be a nurse but children were there and opportunity was not.
My BFF Donna thought she would be the nurse and then I became one.
Katie was a nurse too.
If it were not for Paula, a friend from the "old neighborhood,"
I would not know about another warm and wonderful nurse, Alberta Hunter.
Famous Blues singer, songwriter to nurse back to the stage,
where she clearly shines, shines.
I cannot tell the story like Paula did, with that thick New York City accent and the gestures.
Will work on that one later.
To the point, Alberta was a blues singer who got a nursing degree.
She worked past the age of mandatory retirement because the hospital did not know how old she really was. She was 80. She went back to singing and as you can see, she never missed a beat.
I can see her holding a dying mother's hand and stroking their shoulder.
She reminds me of my friend BJ in her physical strength. Do not underestimate how hard this woman has worked. She is originally from Memphis. Like so many others greats and legends...
This is dedicated to Alberta Hunter.
Will finish this story later.

Psalm Challenge 103

Psalm Challenge 103

as we go on through uncertain waters,
as David did,
as every human does,
finding even at the end it was better to look around and see what you have to be thankful for.

From the web...

1 (102-1) Bless the Lord, O my soul: and let all that is within me bless his holy name. 2 (102-2) Bless the Lord, O my soul, and never forget all he hath done for thee.

3 (102-3) Who forgiveth all thy iniquities: who healeth all thy diseases.
4 (102-4) Who redeemeth thy life from destruction: who crowneth thee with mercy and compassion. 5 (102-5) Who satisfieth thy desire with good things: thy youth shall be renewed like the eagle’s. 6 (102-6) The Lord doth mercies, and judgment for all that suffer wrong. 7 (102-7) He hath made his ways known to Moses: his wills to the children of Israel. 8 (102-8) The Lord is compassionate and merciful: longsuffering and plenteous in mercy.
9 (102-9) He will not always be angry: nor will he threaten for ever. 10 (102-10) He hath not dealt with us according to our sins: nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. 11 (102-11) For according to the height of the heaven above the earth: he hath strengthened his mercy towards them that fear him. 12 (102-12) As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our iniquities from us. 13 (102-13) As a father hath compassion on his children, so hath the Lord compassion on them that fear him: 14 (102-14) For he knoweth our frame. He remembereth that we are dust: 15 (102-15) Man’s days are as grass, as the flower of the field so shall he flourish. 16 (102-16) For the spirit shall pass in him, and he shall not be: and he shall know his place no more. 17 (102-17) But the mercy of the Lord is from eternity and unto eternity upon them that fear him: And his justice unto children’s children, 18 (102-18) To such as keep his covenant, And are mindful of his commandments to do them. 19 (102-19) The lord hath prepared his throne in heaven: and his kingdom shall rule over all. 20 (102-20) Bless the Lord, all ye his angels: you that are mighty in strength, and execute his word, hearkening to the voice of his orders. 21 (102-21) Bless the Lord, all ye his hosts: you ministers of his that do his will. 22 (102-22) Bless the Lord, all his works: in every place of his dominion, O my soul, bless thou the Lord.
