Winter seemed to come late, in waves, icy waves,
thunder snow, dimming light from cloudy skies.

Several storms ago
It was a perfect looking snowstorm,
Trees covered with heavy damaging snow and ice.
Beautiful and nasty.
Temperature plummeting tonight
The snow cover gone.

Winter Solstice,
Earthly Pause.
Low in the sky, the sun dips down
pausing one day til the earth wobbles back
like she has done forever,
we feel the low light,
batteries drained,
pausing, to look at the horizon.

offer all gradiations of gray to white and
blues made better by cold.
Still milder than normal
and windy, gusts at times.
We missed the Aurora Borealis last week
with cloud cover each of the possible nights.

Winter Hanging On

| Winter Winter is hanging on like it does many years up here in the North country. This was really snapped a few weeks ago, when I was out on the road. The bumps on the horizon are the Adirondack Mountains, The sun setting. I was trying to capture the elusive sun dogs, pillars of ice crystals in the sky. Happy hunting. |

Vermont finally gets its due snow.
First storm of at least 3 expected this week.
the snow is like confectionary icing and when it is in a pile the center glows perfect sky blue.
then I noticed the sky was total gray. it was snowing hard.
Was the blue captured from when the sun shone through the clouds to form snow?
even if there some scientific explanation for the beautiful blue in the snow?
