Lake Champlain 2

Lake Champlain

The colors are marching on fast.
Coming out in reds, yellows, oranges.
The air cool and fresh.
The lake was calm this day.

Friends treated us to a trip on a boat tour on Lake Champlain.
It was a beautiful clear sky day save a few scattered clouds and rain showers in the Adironadacks.

moments

zen moments in blogging

looking for a post that starts with "z",
wondering,
is that the action of a blogger desperate for "tag balance"?

moment is gone,
now another,
when will someone from Antarctica visit?
(now searching for continent balance)

New moment,
I surface read my favorite bloggers and feel guilty
about not having more time to read, comment and reply.

Next moment,
Have to get this written and proofread and posted
and twittered and then,

I think how I am grateful for my blogger haven,
where sharing thoughts and moments
helps me stay in the moment,
even if it is only
one moment.

Geneology Links

Links to history
I have been doing some research on our family roots and really it boils down
to Swedish, Bohemian and Prussian,
well sort of.

You start to see some blurriness and nomadic activity which I suppose was my biggest first surprise.
Somehow it seemed people back then, would have just stayed put somewhere, forever.
The links below are roughly organized, the first group are about Bishop Hill and our Swedish ancestors. Then Bohemian, then Prussian.
They really apply to many descendants of immigrants from Europe between 1830 and 1880.
Escaping religious constraints, economic pressures, forced military service, joblessness,
population growth, they came to the U.S.
Go back a bit farther in European history and you see the oppression, conquering, disease, slavery.
It took the Teutonic knights over 50 years to kill half the Prussians. Did all that strengthen those who were born before me, my source?

Solar Stream

Solar Stream

It is a solar stream,
as old as the universe,
captured by Nasa's cameras
like never before.

The sun sends out
a bundle of plasma
and lights up
the Northern Sky.

Does the stream mean
something more than
a burst of light
sent into space?

Could the travelers
of tomorrow,
ride the wave
of the Solar stream?

Ageism and the Empty Chair

The story lingers of Mr. Clint Eastwood's famous monologue with an empty chair.
Did anyone else notice that Journalistic Ageism was afoot as Mr. Eastwood voiced his beliefs and opinions?
The news people often implied old fogey-isms, stereotypes, "incoherency", "speaking off script", attributing Mr. Eastwood's age was equivalent to certain senility.
Mr. Eastwood's speech was criticized because
he touched several nerves. He spelled out his opinions, legal in the US.
He had great timing, he broke boundaries, and he could because
He is Clint Eastwood!
He left many with a vision implanted of that empty chair.
Brilliance? or senility?
Or being a great director!

Just be careful if you find yourself engaging in Age-ism:
Defining elders' actions and labelling elders using negative stereotypes.
This was all about free speech and the reactions were about ageism.
Leading me to reiterate:
Freedom of speech is still fully intact in the US in all spectrums of age.
Now If you don't like that, go tell a chair.

One's

One's

One's
were lined up again,
I noticed,
glancing randomly at a clock,
1:11
or
11:11
or I would see a whole line of
one's
1111111.

It was if the
Universe
was trying to say something.
One's are pillars
holding up tall buildings,
and on down to
the simplest
denominator.
One's seem simple enough
until you see them everywhere,
and you want to find some meaning there,
in the numbers,
in the
One's.

Geneology

and the dna trail

Geneology & the DNA trail
might tell us where we have been,
or where we might fail.

do you have antibodies
to your
antibodies?

do you fight
or flight
a little
or a lot?

do you wonder
why you
wander?

or stay put
in your chair
at night?

Did you ever look
in the rear view mirror
to see where
you have been?

Do you seek the messages
in your DNA,
do you believe
we are victims
therein?

Can we rise above the protein strands
of fate?

Can we be unique
when not so different after all
than a monkey
or a pig?

The DNA
says it all.

JOAN OSBORNE w/ AMY HELM -- "THAT'S WHERE IT'S AT"

link to music...
after searching for where this music tour started...
Fred called me the other day and said,
get ready, we have tickets...
just what the doctor ordered:
music, healing, realignment.

Amy Helm and her musicians
were in Burlington last night...
We felt so lucky to get tickets and
sit in the front,
taking in her fresh sweet voice complemented so well
by amazing guitars, Byron Isaacs, Dan Littleton,
blending voices
and
Justin's cool percussion unit.
My favorite song...
The Battle is Over but the War Goes on...
and we enjoyed thoroughly the rest of the show.
2 standing ovations,
Her Album coming out in 2013......
We appreciate them for coming to Burlington and braving the wild winds...

here is a link to her website and schedule...

The Swallows Left

The Swallows Left Monkton last week,

and I did not really notice the exact date.

Fred wrote it in on the calendar
like he does every year.

They had a really great year,
Chubby and healthy, spry, active and they had a couple of good broods.

I wonder where they go, how far down south,
south of the equator?

Then wonder, do they know the hurricane predictions,
without radar?
Where to duck for cover on the trip?
How to pace the trip with the food supply?
How to keep the hawks from eating the little ones?
Do they ever get lost?

No matter what, it is quieter without the swallows chattering on the line

I still attribute their population increase to the decline in bats,
and yet I have no science to back this.

Sunday entry for Mom

Sundays were always for Mom.
A call,
a visit,
dinner,
How are you doing?
A hug,
A soft face,
kind hand,
Here are some cookies,
There,
all better.

Here are some memoirs for Mom.
As I pull them out I want to share the moments
and you will feel the power of my mother, too.

from The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam in Mom's handwriting
My Mom recited these and this was here favorite version.

Here is a Telegram of when My Mother's Father Carl died (my grandfather).
It must have been eerie getting telegrams sometimes
when this is the news.
My Mom was 5, her brother 15
and My Mom,
and Fanny,
his wife, My Grandmother
 was Heartbroken
Forever.

You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone - Amy Helm

Incredible link to music for Saturday...

Synchronicity

Synchronicity

is
Timing
on Steroids.

Another Concept
referred to  by
Edgar Cayce
and other mystics
and dreamers.

Do you ever
open a book and find
it is exactly where you wanted to be?

Do you ever get somewhere and find something
you needed and yet were not looking for it?

Do you ever paint a picture,
wondering
What is it that
you are trying to say,
and when you are done,
You see the results,
so obvious,
a perfect result,
then you show another person
and they are affected,
with the emotion you had,
brush in hand, struggling to find the right
colors, strokes, tempo,
and you see the message as a thread
between you and another person,
and you see how special it is
that this whole experience even happened
as it was meant to be,
The Timing felt so right,
That is
Synchronicity.
