Aging

Aging

Is inevitable,

Unpreventable,
Incorrigible,
& sometimes
Elusive.

Do we travel in
Circles?
Like I am told,
By mystic shamans
Like my Mom.

To me,
Time like a parking garage,
Each level an age or era,
Hard to explain.

Aging,
Traveling in our concept of time,
Is it really any different
Whether 18 or 98?

My external observations
Of elders
May be deceptive once we
Start talking,
My efforts sometimes concentrated
On not judging.

Walk in my shoes
They may tell you
Young one,
Someday they'll be you,
Hold their hand
Until they are done.

Memories

Memories

Of a feral cat we loved and cannot remember her name
And
The farmstand we had for a few summers.

Memories
Powerful at times,
Transient at times.

My Dream

My Dream

Now a surreal memory,
Dim and clear at the same time.

They stood around
The mighty table.

Men who serve the masters,
No matter which side of the table.

Each man and precious few women
have a part, a vote, a piece of power.

The vote went on for an interminable duration,
Beards long, graying men stood stalwart against their opposition.

They died standing or sitting there, firm in their opinions,
Petrified sculptures, and we slaves all watched in horror.

Waking up, I shook off the dream and
the 6 am radio news played the news of the day.

archive Monday

I am posting some random archival shots

First, Mom's Butterfly

Next,
sunflowers from a better garden year

And ledge photos
As I thought about molten moon, Io, and how they compared it to
A younger Earth. Ledges came to mind. Once molten, now solidified.

Take Me Back to Park Slope

Take Me Back to Park Slope,
by Mary E Gerdt 2013 all rights reserved.
Dedicated to paula b. who shared her story with me of the old neighborhood.

Take me Back to Park Slope

Oh, Kind Sir, Can you help me?

I’m lost and I can’t find my way,

I took a wrong turn,

And now need to learn,

The way back to my old neighborhood.

You know it when you see it,

I’m sure you know just where I mean,

There’s a street full of people,

And a church with a steeple,

And the vendors are open all day.

The baby carriages strolling,

Horse carriages casually rolling.

No hurry for here,

Any day of the year,

Your work is a labor of love.

We toiled to build the bridges,

Fresh off the overseas boats,

We stick built these homes,

Now all I do is roam,

And search for the place that’s not there.

Take me back to my Mother,

She’s the one with the kind heart and face,

She gave color to our home,

Now all I do is roam,

And search for the home of my youth.

Take me back to

Park slope,

On a Fine Sunny Sunday afternoon,

We’ll stroll there,

Redeem our soul there,

not even toll there,

For we’re in heaven

Together

Again.

Psalm Challenge 124

Psalm 124
King James Version (KJV)
124 If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, now may Israel say;
2 If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us:
3 Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:
4 Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:
5 Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.
6 Blessed be the Lord, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.

7 Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.
8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

For lovers of deer like myself,
We caught these in the lens

Guest Editorial. Monkton Chronicles

Guest Editorial

Monkton Chronicles...and beyond.

Contributed by Dr. Katharine Hikel,
and I do keep quoting doctors because they usually care about people's health...
they also are in the know about who knows who and how things get funded.
it is not rocket science.
Thanks Hr. Hikel for speaking up...

One thing...is the inevitable industry price-jacking of shale gas as soon as everyone is hooked:http://theuticashale.com/driven-by-oil-shale-economics-natural-gas-prices-primed-for-slow-and-steady-rise/

http://shaleoilplays.com/2011/09/when-will-natural-gas-prices-rise/

Gas prices worldwide:http://shaleoilplays.com/2012/10/map-of-world-natural-gas-prices/

The Economist explains why prices must rise:http://www.economist.com/news/finance-and-economics/21572815-natural-gas-prices-are-sure-riseeventually-bonanza-or-bane

So it's not going to be a form of cheap (or clean) energy. The only reason for justifying the use of shale gas is that we have a lot of it.

I would also like to call attention to the presence of Don Gilbert (VT Gas CEO) as chair of the compensation committee on the Board of Trustees at Fletcher Allen Health Care (which buys over $1M/year of his product). This is an egregious conflict of interest; and surely his activities on behalf of the gas company are not in keeping with the supposed mission of a nonprofit medical center. Perhaps more people should call for his resignation - as at Board meetings, which are open to the public, for which the schedule is here:
http://www.fletcherallen.org/about/welcome/leadership/board_of_trustees/board_meetings.html

I have emailed Board Member Patti Fisher, MD, about this; she forwarded my call for his resignation to the Board Chair, so there is the first stone.
